Post Graduate Diploma: Approved Mental Health Practice 2022-2023
The AMHP role is a complex one. It is also unique among the tasks of Social Workers and other mental health professionals in that the AMHP is acting as an autonomous professional rather than an agent of their employer, whether this be a local authority or an NHS Trust.
In East Sussex and on behalf of East Sussex County Council, AMHPs carry out their roles across the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust area as well as local private hospitals, often in very challenging conditions and often at the point of greatest crisis and risk for individuals and their loved ones.
Central to the role of the AMHP is the ability to make sound legal decisions around the use of compulsory powers in a way that is both lawful and promotes the autonomy of the individual, while safeguarding the person, the family and the wider public.
As a Social Worker or Occupational Therapist the skills and knowledge you will acquire over the course of AMHP training, can equip you to undertake some of the most rewarding, fulfilling and worthwhile work of your career.
