SS7132 Deprivation of Liberty safeguards: Skills and Assessment
This module enables practitioners to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to be appointed as Best Interests Assessors, under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. You will learn to apply the relevant law and codes of practice to best interests’ assessments as well as how to complete the necessary documentation and follow statutory procedures. The module also explores issues of disadvantage and oppression in the context of Deprivation of Liberty.
To be eligible to apply for this course
- You will be a registered Social Worker, Nurse or Occupational Therapist, with 2 years post qualifying experience including undertaking MCA assessments
- You will need to discuss your interest and seek consent from your manager prior to applying
- Once approved as a BIA you will serve on the Council’s BIA rota 4 weeks a year if working full time, for part time staff, arrangements will be made on a pro rata basis
